The warning codes come in a series of letters and numbers that let drivers know exactly what the problem is and what to do next. Today we’re going to focus on the Symbol ‘6’ sub-code. Symbol 6 signifies that you have low differential fluid that needs topping off OR your differential fluid has lost integrity and needs to be replaced. From our position of experience, the Symbol 6 sub-code usually means that your differential fluid is going bad and you need to replace it to restore your vehicle back to factory specifications.

Symbol 6 for All-Wheel-Drive Acura Models

If you have a Symbol 6 sub-code illuminated on your Maintenance Minder system, that means your rear differential fluid is low and/or needs to be replaced. The Symbol 6 sub-code will only light up if you drive an Acura TLX, RLX, RDX, or MDX because rear differentials are only installed on all-wheel-drive Acura models. If you have an all-wheel-drive Acura vehicle with a Symbol 6 sub-code, you’d better bring it into the service center or give us a call to schedule your differential fluid inspection and replacement service as needed.
